The Merrill Park and Recreation Department and Lincoln Lanes will partner up together again this year for the 4th Annual Art & Craft Festival at Normal Park. We will be looking for vendors to sell their craft items and also for some food vendors again this year. Applications will be available on our website: www.merrillparkandrec.com after March 2018, or you will also be able to pick them up in the office at the Smith Center. This event is FREE to the public.

 “FILL THE GAZEBO” will also take place on Saturday, August 4.

 

Badges and Bulls Eye

LOCATION: Sportsman Club, Merrill – Meet at the Smith Center at 9:00, we will be taking a bus there with all the kids, parents are welcome to ride along or drive themselves.

Badges and Bulls Eye is a program designed to teach kids archery. This program get kids active in a fun and unique manner. Archery teaches kids discipline, safety, and patience all while having fun and interacting with our local police officers.

This program is made possible through a GRANT by the COPS and KIDS FOUNDATION.

The Cops and Kids Foundation was created to help bring law enforcement agencies together with the community they serve. We are here to provide police department with the means to make the connection between officers and the people. These programs are a great way to break down barriers and teach police officers and citizens to trust and depend on each other.

Spend Friday mornings with the Merrill Park and Recreation doing some fishing and soaking up some sun! This program will run once a month and we will teach you casting, how to put on bait, untangling your lines. The Merrill Park and Recreation does have some fishing poles that you can use or you can bring your own. You can bring your own tackle and we will provide the bait.

 

Flag Football Registration and Skills Evaluations

COACHES MEETING: Thursday, August 16 at 7:00 p.m. All coaches are required to have someone form their coaching staff there. Equipment will be handed out and we will be going over the rules.

Flag Football skill evaluation and registration will take place as noted above. There will be a $10.00 late fee for anyone who signs up after Sunday, August 5 after the final registration is complete. NO REGISTRATION WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER FRIDAY, AUGUST 10 – NO EXCEPTIONS. If you will be out of town the 3 days of tryouts please sign up ahead of time. All evaluations and registrations will take place at the Smith Center. All kids will be assigned to a team.

Garden Stepping Stones Class

Have you always wanted to make a special stepping stone? Join us for a fun and creative adventure in the world of outdoor design! Learn how to mix cement and place it in a special mold. Let your imagination run wild and create a beautiful masterpiece by making your handprint and arranging colorful stones, glass or other embellishments in your stone. Stepping stones can be used indoors or outdoors. Cure time is approximately one week. Don’t forget your paint shirt.

 

Gutter Busters - Bowl with an Officer

Kids In Motion

This 4 week program will feature expert faculty who will teach mini-camps in different sports. Each week will be a different sport. Kids In Motion will be held at Lion’s Park. If it is raining or storming the program will be cancelled for the day and be made up after the last scheduled day.  Pre-registration is required.

 

Nature Nuts

Pre-registration is required – (if you are doing all three, you will have to register for all three separately, make sure you write down the dates you are registering for – example: Nature Nuts/June 15 and the cost)

June 14 @ Riverside – Wear your tennis shoes – we will be walking the trail and collecting and gathering the wonders of nature. Who knows, maybe we will even see some small creatures running about! After the hike is complete we will be making leave and stick people. If the weather is nice bring your lunches and enjoy a picnic in the park!

July 12 @ Prairie Trails – Wear your tennis shoes – we will be crossing the big bridge and head out on the trails next to the water. After the hike we will head to the shelter and make some worm crafts.

August 9 – Wear your tennis shoes – we will be heading out on the Thrivent Trail that is connected to the Riverbend Trail. On this exciting hike we will be watching for animal tracks, birds and who know’s maybe we will even see a deer! We will be doing some tree bark rubbings and collecting some sticks to make a stick frame.

DON’T FORGET TO DRESS ACCORDING TO THE WEATHER, COULD START OUT A LITTLE CHILLY IN THE MORNING.

 

Recycled Robot Project

DATE/TIME:  1ST Class – Tuesday, June 26 – 1:00 – 2:30

2nd Class – Thursday, August 16 – 6:00 – 7:00 p.m.

AGES: 6 – 12 years old

COST: $6.00 per class

MUST PRE-REGISTER – MIN. 5 – MAX 20

The Merrill Park and Recreation Department will be offering this unique program to kids        ages 6 - 12 years old. We will be building robots of all different shapes, sizes and all different materials. We will be using toilet paper rolls, boxes (all sizes) paper towel rolls, buttons, plastic cups, spice containers and etc. We will be collecting recyclable materials, but if there is something you want your robot to have feel free to bring in some items. We will provide glue, tape, and a hot glue gun to help keep your robot together. Bring your imagination and be ready to build.

 

Shake Your Sillies Out

DATE:  Thursday, June 28, July 19 and August 23

TIME: 9:30 – 10:00 a.m.

AGES: 2 – 5 years old

A place where your child can develop learning skills through music and motor skills. Your child will use his/her social skills to make new friends and be introduced to structured activities. Children sing, play rhythm instruments and move to the beat. This is a great program for your child to meet and make new friends.

 

Starter T-Ball

Your child needs to bring a glove, water bottle and a smile! We do provide helmets but would encourage parents to purchase their own and put their child’s name on it.

You must pre-register for Starter T-ball by May 31, 2017. Any registration taken after May 31 there will be a $10.00 late fee and will not be guaranteed a t-shirt by the first game. NO registrations will be taken after June 8, 2018.

Take a Swing

DATES: Mondays, May through June

AGES: 18+

WHERE: MHS Tennis Courts

JOIN AN ADULT TENNIS LEAGUE

We will be offering a league this summer for anyone 18 and older. This is a great opportunity to get out on the courts and join others for physical activity, camaraderie, friendly competition, and fun! There will be three levels: novice, intermediate, and advanced. The program coordinator will create a schedule with matches taking place on Monday evenings. If this does not work for an individual’s schedule, a better date and time can be worked out between players.

THERE WILL BE AN ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING ON MAY 1, 2018 AT 6:30 P.M. AT THE SMITH CENTER. If you can’t make the meeting you can call Dawn at 715-536-7313 and let her know you are interested in playing.

 

Zumba Classes

  • Date: Every thursday Morning starting Sept. 10

  • Fee: $4.00 per class - no pre-registration necessary
  • Zumba classes will be offered at the Smith Center every Thursday Morning at 9:00 a.m. Zumba is a Latin-inspired cardio based dance fitness class for all ages and fitness levels. No dance experience is necessary. Come and exercise in a healthy, fun, party-ike environment to Latin & international music which keeps you moving as you tone your body. It's one full hour of energized fun! Classes are taught by Brenda  Black. Everyone is welcome and no pre-registration is required.
